Executive Board Staff

The Executive Board Staff comprises two teams: the Scientific Executive Director's Staff and the Administrative Executive Director's Staff.

In addition, the following sections are assigned to the Executive Board member responsible for administration in a direct reporting line:

The Scientific Executive Director's Staff

The Scientific Executive Director's Staff coordinates and communicates at the interfaces between the Executive Board, the Centre’s administration, the scientific community within and beyond the Centre, the Helmholtz Association, ministries and authorities as well as other stakeholders and the public.

These staff units also support committees and employees of the GFZ in the following matters: Strategic development, knowledge and technology transfer, national and international cooperation, institutional memberships, third-party funding, appointment management, press and public relations, scientific controlling and reporting, sustainability, interface with political actors, scientific infrastructures and synergy potential.

The Scientific Executive Director's Staff Units comprises: Operational Management | Transfer & Innovation | Helmholtz Affairs | Synergies & Networks | Strategic Themes | Projects & International Affairs | Communication & Media.

The heads of these units together form the Scientific Executive Director's Team (Team WV). Team WV supports and advises the Scientific Executive Director and is available for the above-mentioned tasks. 

The Administrative Executive Director’s Staff

The Administrative Executive Director’s Staff is active in the following areas:

Legal Department

The Legal Department is the central point of contact for GFZ's legal matters. The Legal Department is responsible for drafting and reviewing contracts, advising the management on legal matters and representing the GFZ in and out of court in legal disputes.

SAP Team 

The SAP team manages the SAP business software used at the GFZ, which maps all of the GFZ's key business processes. The range of tasks includes the operation and further development of the software as required by changing requirements.

Strategic Controlling

This department is responsible for external reporting, including the annual progress report required as part of the GFZ's program-oriented funding. In addition, the qualitative and quantitative internal evaluation system QUIBS is managed as part of the internal reporting system.

Strategic Controlling works closely with Human Resources Controlling and Financial Controlling.
