DEKORP 4N

  • NW part, Saxothuringian: increased reflectivity along selected bands in the upper crust (around 4 s TWT), indicative of slightly dipping and sub-horizontal thrusts,
  • Central part, boundary zone and KTB site: strong reflective band in the middle crust, representing a prominent overthrust zone of the Moldanubian onto the Saxothuringian,
  • SE part, Moldanubian: different dips in the upper and lower crusts with:
    • a) NW-dipping reflections within the upper crust, representing either (1) slip faults or (2) thrusts from an indentation or interfingering process,
    • b) many SE-dipping reflective bands within the lower crust, indicating a continuation of Moldanubian planes down to the lowermost crust.

DEKORP 4Q

Strong reflectivity in the lower crust, but only weak indications of the steep-angle fault zone of the "Bavarian Pfahl".

KTB 8501 - KTB 8506

  • KTB 8501 - KTB 8503 (NE-SW trending, perpendicular to DEKORP 4N, KTB drilling site):
    • sediments of the Permo-Carboniferous and younger are offset at the Franconian Line,
    • NE-dipping strong reflections northeast of the Franconian Line are related to the Erbendorf Body,
    • strong Moho reflections indicate a crustal thickness of about 30 km.
  • KTB 8504 - KTB 8506 (NW-SE trending, parallel to DEKORP 4N, KTB drilling site)
    • strong reflections from the sedimentary basin west of the Franconian Line,
    • SE-dipping reflections, showing a strongly imbricated structure probably related to the Erbendorf Body,
    • SE of the KTB drilling site.
