3rd Ortsgespräch (Local Dialogue): Helmert tower, Meridian- und Breitenbuilding at the Telegrafenberg in Potsdam
The Brandenburg State Office for Monument Preservation and Archaeological State Museum, the Brandenburg Chamber of Architects, the Brandenburg Chamber of Engineers, and the Association of Consulting Engineers Berlin-Brandenburg cordially invite you to the 3rd Ortsgespräch (local dialogue) as part of the renovation of the Helmert Tower on Potsdam's Telegrafenberg.
- Date: September 9, 2026
- Time: 4:00 to 6:00 PM (16:00–18:00)
- Venue: Telegrafenberg, Potsdam, Haus
The Helmert Tower on Potsdam's Telegrafenberg has marked the zero point of Prussian-German land surveying since 1892 and is a testament to the geodetic-astronomical research of the 19th century. After a period of disuse, the ensemble comprising the Helmert Tower, the Meridian House, and the Latitude House has been undergoing extensive renovation since 2023.
The goal: to ensure the long-term preservation of the site through a new scientific use in the field of satellite observation.
As part of the 3rd Ortsgespräch, exchange talks with experts on the transformation process are planned. The program includes expert presentations, a site visit to the construction site, and a concluding discussion with experts.
