The DFG project “Framework conditions for a multidisciplinary research data infrastructure” (Radieschen for short) was funded by the DFG as an accompanying project to the call for proposals “Information infrastructures for research data”.

The aim of the project was to develop a roadmap with recommendations for the establishment of a multidisciplinary research data infrastructure in Germany. The basis for this was a gap analysis of existing infrastructures. The multidisciplinary approach of the project was underlined by the participation of partners from six German scientific organizations.

As part of an inventory, the project team identified generic components of existing infrastructures and examined the networking of interdisciplinary elements. The analysis was based on a survey of projects and operators of already established research data repositories. The focus was on technical infrastructure components, organizational aspects and cost structures. In addition, overarching topics were addressed, including the quality assurance of research data and incentives for scientists to manage their data more systematically and openly.
