The fluid flow velocity beneath the CMB is obtained by the inversion of the frozen-flux equations under the assumption of tangential geostrophy. As input data the geomagnetic field at the CMB is used, which is computed by the NHDC. The velocity field for the begin of the year 1990 is provided by I. Wardinski (Section 2.3).
