A new study, in which GFZ postdoc Yosuke Hoshino (now at Nagoya University) was involved, and which was recently published in Nature Ecology and Evolution, suggests that green light prevailed in the underwater world of the Archaikum, which was crucial for the development of the first oxygen-producing photosynthesis on Earth – which used a unique pigment called phycobilin.
