The week opened with a welcome from Heidi Kreibich, who introduced the overall concept of LIMIT2ADAPT, followed by short introductions from everyone on the team. The program was then built around the project's three work packages: Paul Bates presented WP1 on the dynamic flood risk adaptation model, Eric Tate introduced WP2 on social and physical vulnerability constraints, and Jeroen Aerts outlined WP3 on exploring global adaptation limits. Each talk was followed by extended discussion.
We were also joined by external experts, Heiko Apel, Dominik Paprotny, Matti Kummu and Thomas Thaler, whose perspectives helped sharpen our thinking at this early stage. Parallel sessions dug into more specific themes, including SSP downscaling and projections of social vulnerability, survey design, data integration and modelling, exposure mapping, and a review of historic cases of adaptation limits. A guided tour of the historic Telegrafenberg and several shared meals gave everyone the chance to get to know each other.
The closing days were reserved for hands-on collaborative work among the postdocs and PhD students, laying the groundwork for the first milestones, deliverables and joint activities in the months ahead.
We are delighted to see LIMIT2ADAPT get off to such a strong start, and we look forward to the research to come!
