Engineer
Dipl.-Ing. Stefan Weisheit
Building A 20, Room 117 (Werkstatt)
Telegrafenberg
14473 Potsdam

Function and Responsibilities:

  • Development of concepts, design of electronic circuits, PCB layouts, as well as construction, prototype, and small-series manufacturing of devices and systems for geoscientific applications
  • Improvement of devices and systems operated under GFZ supervision, e.g., Ny-Alesund satellite reception station, GFZ-House B328 satellite laser ranging station
  • Development and design of entirely new devices for scientists
  • Creation of PC/Mac/Linux-based programs
  • Proficient software user of: Eagle Layout (circuit design; PCB design), LTspice (analog circuit simulation), Fusion 360 (3D design), STM32Cube IDE (microcontroller programming in C), STM32CubeMX (microcontroller hardware configuration), Eclipse (Python programming for PC), LaTeX (documentation; creation of program flow diagrams)
  • Procurement of automation technology products and accessories, as well as recording and checking additional and modification requests, and, if necessary, forwarding them to GFZ workshops for manufacturing
  • Designing electronic circuits based on desired specifications and bringing them to production readiness
  • Selecting the required components based on their properties, e.g., temperature behavior and transport safety, and commissioning their procurement
  • Assembling and testing analog and digital test and prototype circuits, e.g., for the GNSS station in Ny-Alesund
  • Performing performance and function calculations, measuring electrical and non-electrical parameters
  • Producing and testing laboratory samples and prototypes, e.g., for GNSS stations
  • Adapting and testing software for microcomputer applications using frameworks
  • Conducting investigations, e.g., temperature behavior and power requirements for device approval
  • Creating technical documentation for device development
  • Selecting components and circuits, arranging circuits, contacts, and connections in compliance with relevant regulations
  • Implementing and routing circuit diagrams into PCB layouts using CAD systems
  • Technical design of parts, e.g., fitting electronic assemblies into enclosures, selecting materials
  • Creating technical documentation in accordance with legal requirements (e.g., EU directives, product liability law, and operational conditions)
