GFZ scientists actively participate in studies and expert opinions that are addressed to civil society actors and representatives from politics and administration and contain research-based recommendations for overcoming societal challenges.

- Roadmap Deep Geothermal Energy for Germany (2022), published by institutions of the Helmholtz Association and the Fraunhofer Society, which highlights the great market potential for deep geothermal energy in Germany.
- Position paper "Heat supply in Berlin and Brandenburg through geoenergy" by the Geoenergy Alliance Berlin Brandenburg with the participation of experts from the GFZ (in german)
