GFZ is Germany's national centre for solid Earth research. We advance the understanding of dynamic processes to address global challenges, from mitigating the impacts of natural hazards and sustaining our habitat amid global change to responsibly managing georesources. We are part of the Helmholtz Association, the largest German scientific organisation. With around 1,200 employees as well as ca. 500 guest researchers, we contribute to the Helmholtz Research Field Earth and Environment, aligning cutting-edge research with societal relevance and international collaboration. Our work integrates multidisciplinary studies across Earth's system components, leveraging advanced technologies and infrastructure to research solutions and to transfer our knowledge to society. For the Human Resources department (Talent Management working group), we are looking for a:

Student Assistant (f_m_x) Welcome Center

Reference Number 11098

The Welcome Center Telegrafenberg is the central advice and service point for international researchers from the GFZ, PIK, AWI and AIP. The Welcome Center's services include comprehensive information, individual advice and support before and during their stay in Potsdam/Berlin.

Your responsibilities:

  • Organisation and implementation of (online) events and excursions
  • Preparation of information materials and presentations
  • Management of social media channels
  • Support with correspondence (e.g. with authorities) 
  • Accompany and support international researchers for translation 
  • General office tasks
  • Collaboration on the creation of a monthly newsletter
  • Taking on additional tasks in the Talent Management team (e.g., in Recruiting, Career Center, etc.) as needed, e.g., supporting career-promoting events

Your qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program, ideally at the University of Potsdam
  • Good written and spoken English and German skills (at least B2/C1)
  • Further language skills are an advantage
  • Friendly, helpful manner and enjoy working with international guests
  • Independent and reliable way of working
  • Good local and regional knowledge
  • Flexibility

Start date: As soon as possible
Fixed-term: 6 months, with the option to extend (this requires a valid enrollment certificate in full-time study)
Salary: According to the rules of the TdL (tariff area East) for student assistants currently € 13.98 (without a Bachelor's degree) and € 14.59 (with a Bachelor's degree/FH degree).
Working hours: 9,5 h to 20 h/week (38 h to 80 h/month)
Place of work: Potsdam
