As a service, the Sensor Management System offers a comprehensive way of describing and managing various measuring devices, sensor platforms and measurement configurations as well as documenting the specific setup and configuration of devices and measurement setups, e.g. in observatories or on measurement campaigns, while data is being recorded.

Information on specific setups can be summarized and made available as metadata together with the data for scientific evaluations, making the data genesis permanently traceable and transparent via provenance tracking.

The Sensor Management System was developed as part of the DataHub and is operated as a Helmholtz Cloud Service.
