Poster Prize for Alan Yu at the Ada Lovelace Workshop 2026

Doctoral candidate Alan Yu of GFZ Sections 4.5 Subsurface Process Modelling and 2.5 Geodynamic Modeling has been awarded a poster prize at this year's Ada Lovelace Workshop.

Doctoral candidate Alan Yu of GFZ Sections 4.5 Subsurface Process Modelling and 2.5 Geodynamic Modeling has been awarded a poster prize at this year's Ada Lovelace Workshop.

The Ada Lovelace Workshop series originated in the late 1980s (then known as the Workshops on Mantle Convection and Lithosphere Dynamics) and has since then been held almost every two years. The aim of the conference is to bring together experts in modelling convection and in lithosphere dynamics. Three early-career researchers (selected among 87 candidates) were awarded a poster prize.

The prize was presented to Alan for his poster "Geodynamic controls on the Upper Rhine Graben: from transtensional basin architecture to thermo-hydro-mechanical processes". The jury particularly acknowledged the clarity of the presentation and his convincing, precise responses to questions during the poster session.

Alan's doctoral work is part of the Marie Curie Network TALENTS, which aims to advance understanding of rift initiation, continental break-up and to explore how rifts can generate societal benefits and geohazards.
