ICDP | International Continental Scientific Drilling Program

Projectdescription

The International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP) is a unique multinational initiative that has played a crucial role over the past decades in uncovering geological secrets beneath our continents through targeted scientific drilling. As a non-profit organization for Earth system research, ICDP has enabled groundbreaking science, allowing researchers to investigate numerous targets, test hypotheses, and make fundamental discoveries about our planet by using scientific drilling as a tool to retrieve samples and data from the subsurface.

Coordinated by Section 4.2 of the GFZ, ICDP supports international research teams both financially and with technical-scientific expertise, including equipment, services, training, and know-how. Since its founding in 1996, ICDP has funded more than 60 drilling projects, advancing our understanding of Earth’s dynamic systems.
