Farewell to Dr. Milad Asgarimehr

On 27 August 2026, we celebrated the farewell of our dear colleague Milad Asgarimehr. He will start his new position as Associate Professor for “Remote Sensing and Artificial Intelligence” in the Geodesy Group at Aalborg University (AAU), Campus Copenhagen, in October 2026. He will continue his research on GNSS Remote Sensing and GNSS Reflectometry with a focus on land surface processes such as soil moisture dynamics and vegetation water content estimation. Furthermore, he will advance his studies on AI-based environmental modelling, particularly for the monitoring, modelling and forecasting of Earth surface processes. He will also contribute to teaching and student supervision at AAU. His start at AAU will be strongly supported by the €1.5 million ERC grant FROND (“Forests' Response to Prolonged Droughts”), which he successfully secured. FROND will start in March 2027 and run for five years. We congratulate Milad on his new position and cordially thank him for his great contributions to the research of Section 1.1 over many years.
