Projekte:
Microbial-induced pedogenesis: This project aims to understand how microorganisms influence early soil formation in Antarctica following the retreat of ice and snow. We focus on the spatially segmented development of microhabitats within and on the surfaces of soil aggregates, going beyond conventional composite soil analyses. By separately examining aggregate interiors and exteriors, we seek deeper insights into microbially induced pedogenic processes. With our research, we aim to expand knowledge of polar soil formation and microbial habitat development, contributing to a better understanding of biogeochemical cycles and ecosystem responses to climate change.
