e-genesis | Generating Earth Intelligence for Environmental and Sectoral Impact and Sustainability

e-genesis supports European governments and the European Commission to draw strategic policy decisions for protecting citizens, cities, natural ecosystems, societal health and critical infrastructures. To this end, e-genesis builds Europe's next generation of Earth Intelligence by transforming Earth Observation, AI and environmental modelling into trusted operational services that predict seasonal environmental risks at high spatiotemporal scales.

GFZ will primarily contribute to e-genesis in the field of seasonal groundwater storage predictions for Europe. The approach will build up on soil moisture and groundwater recharge information provided by project partners and ingest large-scale GRACE/-FO-based observations of groundwater storage variations as well as local-scale in-situ groundwater level time series.

The e-genesis kickoff meeting will take place in Athens in November 2026. For more information, see here.
