The GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences was represented at this year’s HANNOVER MESSE, the world’s leading trade fair for industrial technology and transformation, at the joint stand of the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region.
A highlight on the opening day was the visit of Brandenburg’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action, Daniel Keller, to the GFZ stand.
The sections 4.2 ‘Geomechanics and Scientific Drilling’ and 4.3 ‘Geoenergy’ as well as the team ‘Transfer & Innovation’ of the GFZ presented solutions and expertise in the field of deep geothermal energy and further possible uses of the geological subsurface, e.g. for the storage of hydrogen in pore reservoirs.
The Helmholtz Innovation Lab ‘3D-US Lab’ and the ‘GeoLaB’ project were also presented. The ‘3D-US Lab’ aims to establish 3D underground seismology as a key technology for the safe construction and use of underground structures. The underground laboratory ‘GeoLab’ is to be set up in a newly constructed mine tunnel to advance the development of innovative and sustainable geothermal technologies on a scientific basis.
The Hannover Messe is one of the world's largest industrial fairs. It attracts between 130,000 and 200,000 visitors every year. This year, the fair took place from 31 March to 4 April. The joint stand of the capital region was organised by the Economic Development Agency Berlin-Brandenburg (WFBB). The Helmholtz Association was represented by the GFZ and, among others, by stands from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
